For most businesses, yes! Here’s why:
Isn’t that the thing where businesses text you coupons? Is that still a thing?
It is very much still a thing. And the numbers behind it make it undeniably a good investment.
Let’s start with the open rate
Marketing texts get opened about 98 percent of the time. Email averages around 43 percent on a good day, before your carefully written message gets filtered into the promotions tab nobody checks, or the spam folder it doesn’t deserve to be in.
Text messages don’t have those problems. There’s no algorithm deciding your message isn’t relevant enough to surface. There’s no folder. It’s the most direct line you have to your customers, and it’s sitting right there in the same place they text their friends and family.
People actually buy things from texts
What you really want to know is whether people do anything after they read it. Nearly half of consumers have made a purchase directly in response to a marketing text. Abandoned cart messages (the texts that go out when someone leaves your site without buying) convert at around 8 percent.
The ROI makes it hard to justify not trying
Messages cost as little as $0.01 to $0.05 each to send, and the average return is $16.70 for every dollar spent.
For context: you could send a text to 1,000 people for somewhere between $10 and $50. If even a small percentage of them buys something, you’ve more than covered it. It’s one of the few marketing channels where the math works even for small businesses with modest budgets.
The people receiving your texts asked for them
84 percent of consumers have opted in to receive texts from at least one business. Your subscribers typed in their number and said yes. That’s a warmer, more willing audience than almost any other channel gives you.
And they want to feel like you know them. 96 percent of consumers say they’re more likely to buy from a personalized message, and 90 percent say they want more personalization than they’re currently getting. A text that uses someone’s first name, references something they’ve bought before, or arrives at the right moment feels like a brand paying attention.
It goes both ways
Brand sends text, customer reads it, maybe clicks, done. But more than half of consumers are now actively texting businesses back more than they were before. Quick polls, replies to offers, post-purchase check-ins—people respond to texts in a way they simply don’t with email. If you want to hear from your customers, asking them via text is one of the better ways to do it.
One thing to know going in:
Every message legally requires a clear opt-out option, and you can only send between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. in your recipient’s local time. The good news is that when you’re working with a platform like Mobiniti, compliance is handled for you in the background. You focus on the message. We handle the guardrails.
Is it worth it?
If you’re running a business and you want a channel that reaches people reliably, converts at a desirable rate, doesn’t live or die by an algorithm, and costs less than most other options…yes. It’s worth it.
The question isn’t really whether SMS works. The question is whether you’re going to start using it before your competitors do.
Mobiniti makes it easy to find out. Request a demo and we’ll show you how it works!
